SIMFONI is developing multimodal foundation models that combine medical images and clinical data, with ophthalmology as the initial focus.

Building on Singapore’s strengths in diagnostic AI for eye conditions, this programme enhances existing image-based systems by integrating retinal images with patient risk profiles and clinical records. The multimodal models will support more precise diagnosis, risk stratification, and treatment planning across a range of eye conditions, including cataract, retinal diseases, and glaucoma.

Beyond ophthalmology, this approach lays the foundation for extending multimodal AI to other disease areas.
